Today’s video will be on a long necked vase, I’ve added the indentation around the base of the neck to see how the glaze will pool in that area, what glaze do you think we should use? 🤗🤗
By all means comment below have any other further questions
I use about 800 to 900 grams of clay for most vases. Don’t forget that clay can shrink up to 20% of there original size once’s glazed fired
Take your time to centre the clay well to avoid wobbling or uneven walls especially when throwing tall pieces. Make sure the clay is firmly attached to the wheel head, Apply even pressure when centring the clay and let your body weight bring the clay into its natural centre point
As you pull the clay upwards, try to keep the walls as straight as possible. Use slow, controlled movements and maintain an even thickness throughout the pot. You can leave the walls a little thicker then usual and form the shape once you have the desired height.
When finishing off the outside of the vase, use a combination of ribs to get the desired look, I find the mudtools ribs are a great tool to have and you can’t go wrong with there shapes. Once it’s at the leather hard stage, you can then put it back onto the batt and trim the base, you can either add a footing or trim the base flat.
Hope you enjoyed this post and as always Happy Potting!!! 🥳🥳
