Make an Art Vase with this step-by-step guide:

1. Start by marking out circles in the clay using a compass, then cut them out.

You can read more on preparing your clay, rolling out the clay and tools required in our previous blog post “how to make a tumbler part 1-2“.

2. Place the cut clay pieces on a mould and compress them using a tool.

3. Once the clay is dry enough, the pieces will pop off the mould. Flip them onto a board.

4. Score both sides and use clay slip to adhere the joins securely.

5. After shaping the vase and being satisfied with its form, cut out four feet.

6. Attach the feet to the bottom of the vase by scoring and slipping them in place.

7. Make a mark at the top where you plan to cut the hole to create the neck of the vase.

8. Clean up the inside of the vase a bit.

9. Cut out a strip for the vase neck and score and slip the two sections together.

10. Attach the neck to the vase by going around the bottom and joining them securely.

11. Shape the neck according to your preference and clean it up with a sponge.

12. Join the inside of the vase to the neck, ensuring smooth and tidy joins.

13. Put a bag over the vase to protect it while it dries.

14. Once it’s dry enough, place the vase in a bisque kiln and fire it to the appropriate temperature.

15. After the bisque firing, apply your favourite glazes to the vase, and you’re done!

Happy potting! 🤗
