Discover the technique we employed to craft this captivating, ruffled bowl. Here’s how you can create one:
Step 1: Begin by using a template to cut out a piece of clay. This will serve as the foundation for your ruffled bowl.
Step 2: Place your clay on a mould and shape the feet of the bowl. In this demonstration, we’ve used a soft drink bottle to create a plaster mould.

Step 3: Now, employ a tool we made to create those beautiful ruffles. As you work on shaping the ruffles, keep a damp mud tool sponge handy to tidy up any imperfections along the way.
Step 4: Once your clay has dried enough to be manageable, carefully remove it from the mould. This step unveils the initial structure of your ruffled bowl.
Step 5: Use a damp sponge to meticulously clean up the interior of the bowl, ensuring a smooth and pristine finish. This step also involves tidying up any areas on the exterior that may require attention.
Step 6: To add a final touch of elegance, use your finger and a small piece of chamois to refine the rim of the bowl. This detail enhances the overall look of your creation.
Step 7: Admire the Finished Ruffle Bowl Voilà! There you have it, you’re finished ruffle bowl, showcasing its unique ruffled design. This project combines both artistry and utility, making it an appealing addition to your home decor.
Step 8: Finish with Firing and Glazing After allowing your bowl to dry thoroughly, proceed to bisque fire it. Once the bisque firing is complete, apply your favourite glaze or slip to achieve the desired colour and finish. Follow up with the glaze firing to complete your ruffled bowl.
