Got a little vase for todays throw! I have included some information below, Im definitely going to be working on larger base designs for some pots. My main goal is to make something similar to this and add a rustic/wooden looking handle, but we will see how it goes!
Few Tips:
* Wedging: Wedging is the process of kneading clay to eliminate air pockets and ensure consistent texture. It’s crucial for preventing cracks and irregularities in your pottery. To wedge clay:
* Cut your clay into smaller manageable pieces.
* Slam the clay onto the wedging table or work surface to compress it.
* Use a combination of kneading, folding, and pressing to work the clay until it’s smooth and uniform.
* Moistening: Clay can dry out, affecting its workability. Before wheel throwing, make sure your clay is at the right moisture level:
* Sprinkle water over the clay surface if it’s too dry. Cover the clay with a plastic sheet and let it sit to absorb the moisture.
* If the clay is overly wet, let it air out or use absorbent materials to reduce excess moisture.
* Consistency: Aim for a consistent clay texture. Avoid mixing clays with vastly different properties, as this can lead to unpredictable behavior while throwing.
* Weighing Clay: To ensure consistency in your pottery pieces, weigh the clay before you start throwing. This helps you create pieces of similar sizes and thicknesses. I usually use about 800-900grams
Once again hope you enjoyed this post and Happy Potting! 🥳🥳
We will be back tomorrow with some more tips and ideas ❤️
