For something different I thought Id run through a few pointers while throwing this pot.
Even though I can fit a lot more information in the captions I thought Id be a good idea to tell you on the video as well, I’ll be doing a few videos like this in the future just running through my throwing process and talking about the tools I use.
Getting these videos under a minute is being particularly challenging, but our goal is to give you guys informative content that not only helps the pottery community but possibly helps someone also start their pottery journey!! 😊
You can view our video above for tips on making a thrown pot including how many times I generally cone the clay before making a pot among other tips in a step by step process, and also below, I have added some extra tips that I couldn’t fit in the video.
Extra tips:
1: Be sure to pinch the bottom of the pot when you are pulling up the walls, this will help ensure good clay distribution from base to the top.
2: The final finishing of the outside the pot is always done with a metal rib, as it does not move or conform to the clay, but takes every bit of slip off from the outside.
3: Draw the wire through the base your pot once you have finished throwing and allowed to dry for a good half a day, to a full day before you pull it off the bat and turn the base.
If your in the summer months then draw the wire though straight away and leave for half a day as the dry process will be much quicker.
