How to Make a Flask Vase: Step-by-Step Guide

Today, we embark on the creative journey of crafting a beautiful vase from a slab of clay. Follow along as Christine guides you through each step:

Christine begins by laying out her templates on the clay. These templates serve as guides for cutting out the body of the vase.

To ensure a strong and seamless join, she uses a bevel tool to bevel the edges of the clay pieces that will be joined together. This beveling technique is essential for a secure connection.

Christine transfers the clay to a Mould, where she shapes it with a rubber kidney. This step ensures that the clay takes on the desired form, which is the foundation of our vase.

Using a square edge or ruler, she creates lines on the vase’s body. These lines serve as a guide for applying an even texture to the clay. This adds depth and character to the vase.

Off camera, Christine repeats the same process to create the opposite piece of the vase, ensuring symmetry in the design.

Now, Christine carefully scores and slips the individual pieces and assembles the vase. She uses her tools to clean up the seam and compress the clay, ensuring a secure connection.

Placing the vase on the slab, she cuts out the base and attaches it to the bottom of the vase. This adds stability to the vase and completes its structure.

For the final touch, Christine cuts a hole in the shoulder of the vase. She then takes a strip of clay and shapes it into the neck of the vase, and then attaches.

Thoroughly dry the vase before placing it in a bisque kiln, once vase is bisque fired take your vase and apply glaze and then re-fire.

Happy Potting to you! 😀
