1. Begin by cutting out a piece of clay and running it through a slab roller to achieve the desired thickness. Roll it to about 7 mm.
2. Take the slab of clay and compress it to strengthen the material.
3. Use a template or compass to cut out the shape of the bowl.
4. Neaten the exterior of the bowl and tidy up the area around the ruffles.
5. Create small feet for the bowl. Attach them securely by scoring the surface and applying slip to the joins. Use a level to ensure the feet are straight.
6. If you wish to weave your bowl with sisal, cut holes in the clay to accommodate the sisal.
7. Use a foam kidney to clean up the bowl, applying a small amount of water, but be cautious not to over-wet the clay.
8. Once the bowl is dry, carefully remove it from the mould and clean up the interior, ensuring all edges are smooth.
9. Wrap the bowl in plastic and allow it to dry further.
10. Once the bowl is adequately dry, place it in a bisque kiln and fire it to the appropriate temperature.
By following these steps, you can create a beautiful ruffle bowl ready to be bisque fired, glazed fired and displayed.
Happy potting! 🤗
