From raw clays to Slip!
🎨 Dive into the artistry of slip decoration with our step-by-step guide! Transform raw clays into stunning ceramics with these simple instructions:
1. Gather your materials: EPK Kaolin, Ball clay, Potash Feldspar, and water.
2. Mix 33.3% Ball Clay, 50% EPK Kaolin, 16.67% Custer feldspar, and 125% Water thoroughly.
3. Let the mixture sit for a few days, then remix for optimal consistency.
4. Apply the slip to 2–3-day old greenware, ensuring it’s not bone dry. For bone dry greenware, consider calcining 30% of your clay to reduce shrinkage.
5. Build up layers with light coats, avoiding thick areas that may crack. Test thickness as you go to find the perfect application for your style.
6. Ensure even drying by covering with a plastic bag, prioritizing thorough drying to prevent cracks.
7. Proceed with bisque firing, then embellish your piece with colored glazes or oxide washes before applying a final clear glaze to seal it.
8. Glaze fire your pottery to reveal a breathtaking finish that showcases your craftsmanship.
