1. Prepare Your Clay: Wedge your clay thoroughly to remove air bubbles
This helps bring your clay to a consistent texture ready for throwing
2. Center the Clay: Place your clay on the wheel and center it, ensuring it’s stable.
Keeping your elbows close to the body for stability
3. Create the opening: Open the center of the clay and create a opening, forming the foundations for the wall pulls
4. Raise the Vase Walls: Gradually pull up the walls of the vase, shaping it to the desired height and curve.
5. Smooth the Outer Wall: Carefully use a rib or sponge to smooth and refine the outer wall of the vase, ensuring it’s even and free of imperfections.
6. Add Twist Decorations: Add decorative twists or patterns to the top of the vase, giving it a unique and personal touch. (Wooden popsicle stick works wonders!)
7. Slow Drying: Place the vase under a plastic bag and let it dry slowly for about two weeks. This helps to minimize the risk of cracks forming.
8. Bisque Firing: Fire the vase to bisque temperature in your kiln, which will make it strong enough to handle glazing.
9. Glazing: Finish the vase with your favorite glaze, I used a slip trailer to help get a different effect with the glaze also! This can be something you can try to get a different effect on your own piece
Once complete, you can remove your vase from the glaze firing and you have a beautiful piece of art that you can keep forever or give to a loved one 🤗
