Experimenting is the best way to learn

I recently wanted to create a double bulbous vase and decided to give it a go

While I’ve don’t bulbous vases before this was the first time I’d done two! Fair to say I thought I’d be a little easier but hey that’s how you learn! Fair to say the next one should go more smoothly

Few things I did learn:

1. Getting the correct thickness in the walls was key! I had issues towards the end of the throw simply because I left too much clay towards the base and didn’t add a little extra to the top in anticipation of the second bulbous I wanted to throw

2. Water, water was a big part of the process in this shape, preferable I’d use a little more then pulling out the bulbs and a little less when I was throwing up the walls.

3. Amount of clay, the amount of clay I was working with inevitably determined the outcome of the vase, for a vase of this size and shape I really should have had about 300gms more of clay to comfortably throw this shape

As always
