Create a Kurinuki Bowl in a few simple steps!
Begin by rolling out an 18 mm thick slab of clay, then cut sides, base, and a foot ring using templates and a clay knife.
Place the base on a mould, shaping and compressing the clay. For the foot ring, use a wooden dowel, compress it onto the base, score, slip, and attach, ensuring smooth joints with your tools.
Now, use clay strips to form the bowl’s body. Trim the base’s edge, join the clay strips, score, slip, and attach to the base. Employ your tools to conform and compress the joints until smooth.
Insert a coil inside the bowl joint, score, slip, and wedge it, smoothing with your tools.
Firm up the clay with a heat gun before carving the bowl’s sides using a paint scraper.
Finish by using a damp sponge to clean up the bowl, brushing off any excess clay from carved edges.
Your Kurinuki Bowl is ready!
Allowed to dry thoroughly before bisque firing, then apply your favourite glaze before finally putting your vase through a Glaze firing.
Happy Potting to you! 😀
