Learn the art of crafting a ceramic bottle through this simple tutorial. Follow these steps to create your very own ceramic masterpiece.
1. Begin by designing a pattern on cardboard. This pattern will serve as a template for your ceramic bottle.
2. Utilise the cardboard pattern to cut out the necessary pieces from a slab of clay.

3. Employ a cutting tool to trim the edges of the clay pieces at an angle. This step is crucial for achieving clean and precise joins.
4. Allow the trimmed clay pieces to dry on a board. It’s important to wait until they reach a point where they can maintain their shape.
5. Assembling the bottle by scoring and slipping. Gradually join the sections together, ensuring each connection is secure.
6. Use a rubber tool and sponge to refine the corners of the clay pieces.
7. Place coils of clay into the corners on the inside of the bottle to provide structural support.
8. Give the bottle’s interior a quick wipe using a sponge to remove any excess clay.
9. Apply scoring and slip on the edges of the bottle’s top section. Gradually bring the top portion together, closing the opening.
10. Mark the desired location for the neck, and then cut it out. Create a strip from the slab of clay, fashioning the neck. Ensure the size matches, score, and slip. Attach the neck to the bottle’s top section, securely joining them.
11. Shape the neck’s edges to fit the top of the bottle. Score, slip, and attach the neck, paying close attention to the interior connection.
12. Optionally, embellish your ceramic bottle with decorative elements of your choice.
13. Fire your bottle in a bisque kiln, and then glaze and refire your piece.
Following these steps, you’ll successfully craft your ceramic bottle, showcasing your creativity and dedication to the art of ceramics. Enjoy the process and admire your final masterpiece.
Happy potting! 🤗
