How We Roll Out Slabs of Clay

To initiate the process, we begin by using our slab slicer to cut the slab of clay.

The cut slab is then placed onto the initial canvas sheet, where we press down on the front portion of the slab.

A second canvas sheet is employed to cover the slab.

Subsequently, we fine-tune the wheel’s position so that it sits just below the height of the cut slab. The slab is passed through the wheel for the first time.

This step is repeated a few more times until the desired thickness is achieved. Our aim is to reach an approximate thickness of 7mm through these repetitions.

Afterward, a plastic sheet is placed over the slab to keep from sticking to next slab.

With a deft motion, the slab is flipped onto a board, and from there, it’s transferred to a stack.

The steps above are then repeated, ensuring that enough clay is rolled out to meet the requirements.

During this process, it’s worth noting that periodically spraying water between the stacks is advisable. The moisture from the water serves to maintain the clay’s dampness, thereby extending its shelf life.

Happy potting! 🤗
