What we do
We will start our first blog by discussing the range of pottery we make.
For example, our moon vases we have designed to be pretty to the eye, decorated with our house-made slip in various colours, impressed with flower decorations, and made with multiple clay bodies.
We start by selecting a clay body. Then, depending on what we have in mind for the design of this pottery vase, we may choose a white clay body or a black one.
Or we may prefer a more exotic clay body like a recent clay body we have purchased, Clayworks “Yellow Speckle” this particular clay body is yellow in colour with black speckles in the clay, creating a unique design on the pottery piece.
Next, we cut out the pieces needed to create the pottery piece and assemble the vase.
After that, we finish the pottery vase and decorate it using various methods or carving decoration into the vase.
We then wait for the vase to dry and prepare it for its first firing.
Then after its first firing, we may decorate it with underglaze (a stable colour to go under a transparent glaze) or glaze the pottery piece with a colourful glaze and refired again.
After its final firing, the pottery vases get unloaded from the kiln and now ready to make a beautiful addition on a shelf in a home or office.
