It ended up taking longer than I thought to create this vase, but it was worth it in the end!

What took the most amount of time was all the drying as well as getting the handles and leaf decorations ready. I wanted to put some hand built techniques into a wheel thrown vase to bring the two genres together, so to speak.

Due to us being in winter at the moment, it takes a long time for the clay to dry out, please create a challenge when you are putting together of ours like this due to the fact that everything is so damp and structural integrity is not very good. This is when a heat gun comes in handy, it allows you to enjoy pieces off so that you can assemble it all in the one day. If there was a little more time, I would probably try all these out naturally and assemble them later on for the purpose of the video. I decided to do it in one night.

When it comes to applying any decoration to your vars, you want the thickness of the decoration to be relatively the same as the thickness of the wall of your vase this will mean that your piece won’t crack during the drying process

Another thing I will mention. when you create either the handles or the slab of decorate your vars with, make sure to run a very thin metal rib or wire through the piece before removing it from the bat. if it is still a little too soft you can use a heat gun to stiffen up the clay

Don’t forget to score and slip everything you attached to the bars as this will help create a bond that will endure the bisque firing

If you have any more questions please feel free to comment below. If you did find this video enjoyable please consider sharing it to your story to help spread this video to anyone who may find it useful or inspiring. This helps us create more videos like this which we always enjoy doing 🤗

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend as well ❤️
