1. Prepare Your Clay: Wedge your clay thoroughly to remove air bubbles.
2. Centre the Clay: Place your clay on the wheel and centre it, ensuring it’s stable.
3. Create the Trench: Open the centre of the clay and create a trench, forming the dip area first.
4. Raise the Inner Bowl: Gradually pull up the walls of the inner bowl, shaping it to the desired height and curve.
5. Shape the Outer Wall: With the inner bowl in place, pull up the outer wall, making sure it’s straight and even.
6. Refine the Shape: Use a rib to smooth and refine the inner and outer walls, ensuring a seamless transition between the two areas.
7. Define the Rim: Carefully shape the rim of the bowl, ensuring it’s even and smooth.
8. Trim Excess Clay: Remove any excess clay from the base, giving the bowl a clean finish.
9. Final Touches: Use a damp sponge to smooth out any remaining imperfections and let your bowl dry slowly before bisque firing. (we recommend using a plastic bag to slow down the drying time as this will minimise the risk of cracks forming in your very large piece of clay!)
