When I started throwing this pot, I made sure to keep a fair bit of thickness in the base before widening out the walls to create the belly of the basket
What this does is it allows the base to spread out when you are doing the widening process. The wider the base, the thinner it will become.
So make sure you do keep enough thickness when doing this
As for attaching the handles, this is the most crucial part of making something like this. Scoring the surface of the clay before attaching it with slip allows you to get a good bond with the wall, giving it a little bit of a wiggle helps make that bond even tighter
After you’ve had it sitting under a plastic bag for about 48 hours to 72 hours you’ll want to place it upside down using a bisque bowl that you have lying around to support the inside of the basket and allowing enough height so that the handles don’t touch the bat
Once you’ve trim the base, place it back under a plastic bag and allow the drying to be done over a long period of time. This will minimise the risk of your handles cracking off the wall.
