Learning The Wheel For The First Time – Results

Embarking on the journey of wheel throwing pottery at 60 was indeed a challenge, but one I’m grateful for.

Learning from my son added a magical touch to the experience, creating unforgettable bonding moments.

Clay proved to be a great equaliser, challenging preconceived notions about hand skills. It demands strength and finesse, crucial for keeping the clay centred.

Aidan, my son, skilfully re-centred the clay multiple times, ultimately leading to the success of creating my first pot.

Trimming the pot posed its own set of challenges; the sharp tools demanded a slow and steady approach to avoid removing too much clay.

Carving, a skill I had some confidence in due to past experience, took an unexpected turn when one section ended up too thin, resulting in a whimsical cactus pot.

Despite the hurdles, the process was immensely enjoyable, showcasing the joy in overcoming obstacles.

For those who think it’s too late to delve into this wonderful skill, I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a try. It’s never too late to discover the joy of working with clay, moulding, shaping, and creating something uniquely yours.
