1. Begin by designing a pattern on cardboard. This pattern will serve as a template for your ceramic vessel.
2. Utilise the cardboard pattern to cut out the necessary pieces from a slab of clay.
3. Employ a bevel tool to trim the edges of the clay pieces at an angle. This step is crucial for achieving clean and precise joins.
4. Allow the trimmed clay pieces to dry on a board. It’s important to wait until they reach a point where they can maintain their shape. Now apply stamps or patterns for a textured look.
5. Assembling the vessel by scoring and slipping. Gradually join the sections together, pinching seams ensuring each connection is secure.
6. Use a clay tool and sponge to refine the corners and joins of the clay pieces.
7. Next attach your base and give the vessel a quick wipe using a sponge to remove any excess clay.
8. Now it’s time to cut out your lid use paper template for this next step then place a small knob on top, make sure the lid is centralised.
9. Finally cut some feet out and attach to base making sure to first score and slip.
10. Fire your vessel in a bisque kiln, and then glaze and refire your piece.
