Throwing this cup and attaching a handle

To start, take approximately 900 grams of clay and pinch it down to ensure a strong bond. Begin by coning and centring the clay two to three times, then form the base walls using your thumbs and pull up the walls with a throwing sponge in a gradual motion, creating a pleasing curvature.

You can also use a small rib to help shape the inside of the cup as well as helping unify the thickness from the bottom to the top

Ensure the walls maintain consistent thickness before trimming the base with a turning tool. Allow the piece to rest for 48 hours. After this period, roll out a coil of clay to shape the handle using a pulling technique.

Rolling out a coil first saves you having to pull and shape the handle from a ball of clay, which can be tricky if its not something you do often, this is like a cheat code for handles

Place the handle on a large rolling pin and prepare the cup’s exterior for attachment.

Score and slip the surface, smoothing joins with your fingers and a sponge. Support the handle during the drying process by placing it underneath a plastic bag.

Hope you enjoyed this post and as always Happy Potting!!! 🥳🥳
