Quite happy with how this designed turned out actually!
My idea for the shape of this vase actually came from a similar one I did earlier, I wanted the same shape but with a slightly different design. This ended up being a swirl pattern that i settled on.
Indenting the clay should allow the glaze to pool in the low spots of the piece
I will give some tips for throwing your own:
Wait a minimum of 48hrs (under a plastic bag) before you pick it up and trim the base. This may take a little longer depending on how hot or cold your studio may be, but picking it up while its still too damp will end up messing around your clean swirl lines
If you want thick foot rings on the bottom of your vases, leave about 1.5cm of thickness in the base, you can measure this by using a potters needle, if you forget to trim you base, there is a risk of it cracking due to the base being so thick so don’t forget!!
When trimming the tops of your vases, if the clay is too thin you’ll end up cutting away all the design, so what I do is make the lips twice as thick so you can cut it later on and get a clean edge!
