1. Start by cutting out two circular pieces of clay. These will form the body of your vase.
2. Place one of the clay circles on a cushion. With a moulding tool, gently shape it to the desired oval form. Take your time to ensure a smooth, uniform shape.
3. After shaping, use a rubber kidney to clean up any imperfections and refine the surface. A neat finish is essential for a professional look.
4. Flip both clay pieces and trim any excess clay. It’s crucial to create two matching halves for your vase. Once trimmed, score and slip the edges of both pieces. This will help them adhere together securely.
5. Carefully bring both halves together, aligning them perfectly. Be sure to pinch the seam gently to seal the two halves together. This step is vital for a seamless appearance.
6. To create stability and elevate your vase, use a cookie cutter to cut out four feet from clay. Score and slip each foot and attach them to the base of the vase using a wooden tool. Press and compress to ensure a strong bond.
7. Take a cookie cutter and cut a hole in the centre of the vase. This opening will be where you place your flowers or decorative elements.
Part 2
1. Begin by taking a strip of clay. Score and slip it, then shape it into a neck for your vase. Ensure the strip is uniform and of the desired thickness.
2. Position the clay neck on the shoulder of the vase, aligning it carefully to create a seamless connection. Make sure it stands straight and tall.
3. To ensure a strong bond, score and slip both the area around the hole at the top of the vase and the base of the neck. This step is crucial for the stability and durability of your vase.
4. After attaching the neck, use a wooden tool and a damp sponge to gently smooth the joint. This will remove any visible seams and provide a polished appearance to your vase.
5. To add a touch of elegance, gently flare the neck of the vase. This will shape the rim, giving your vase a distinct and refined look.
