This little vase is very similar to a design i did recently on another pot, using a tool to give a nice twist up the side of the wall gives a good dynamic to the piece. I also presented this one a little differently tonight. Got some nice guitar for the background 😌
Few Tips On How I Made This:
- Begin with well-prepared clay. Wedge it thoroughly to eliminate air pockets and achieve uniform consistency. Give it a few slaps and whacks to form it into a nice round ball
- Cone and centre the clay by brining your hands towards the centre of the wheel head, a lot like if you were trying to squeeze a very hard bottle of tomato sauce over your food. Then, support the side of the cone with one hand and push from the top down with the other, with an emphasis of pushing straight down
- Once you have the clay centre, Open the clay by pressing your thumbs into the centre, gradually widening the opening while maintaining an even thickness. Compress the base to minimise cracks too
- Once you’ve formed the basic conical shape, it’s time to create the twisted effect on the wall. Use a pottery tool, such as a rib or a shaping tool, to gently press against the outside of the wall. Start at the base and move upwards. As you press, slightly rotate the tool in a spiral motion. This creates the twisted appearance on the wall. Adjust the pressure and rotation speed to achieve the desired level of twist. Experiment to find the effect you like best. 🙂
