I haven’t done one one these in a while so it was good to make one again
Some tips!:
1. Begin by centering the clay on the wheel, ensuring it’s well-wedged and free of air bubbles.
– Use gentle pressure to create an even, flat base. Compression is key!!
– Apply equal pressure with your hands and fingers as you work your way up from the base to the desired height of the pot. Pulling the walls up
– Focus on maintaining uniform thickness throughout the wall, taking care not to allow any weak spots to develop.
2. Smoothing the Outside Wall with a Rubber Kidney:
– Once the pot reaches its desired height and shape, use a rubber kidney to smooth the exterior surface gently.
– The rubber kidney should be moistened with water to prevent it from sticking to the clay.
– Don’t for get to trim the excess clay from the base of the pot too
3. Creating Decorative Dimples with Sponges:
– To add creative flair to your pot, prepare two very slightly damp sponges.
– Gently press one sponge into the side of the pot, being mindful of the depth and spacing of the dimples.
– Repeat the process with the second sponge, creating a balanced and symmetrical design on the opposite side of the pot.
– The pressure applied while making dimples should be controlled, ensuring that they are consistent and add to the overall aesthetic of the pot.
4. Re-Rounding the Top to Finish:
– To complete the pot, re-round the top edge using your fingers and a delicate touch.
– This step will refine the lip, making it smooth and even, providing a professional touch to the piece.
– Ensure that the rim is neither too thin nor too thick, finding the right balance to create an aesthetically pleasing and functional final product.
