My intentions for this small vase was to ruffle the edge to give the very simplistic form some style, while a straight walled design is still great, you can’t keep just making the same old same old haha
I actually got the ruffled design inspiration from a piece of Remued Pottery we have up on the table, It’s a small (but tall) cup from the 1930s done in a very art deco style, it has a ruffled top with a gumnut and a stylised eucalyptus branch pottery handle, ive been looking at this piece for a while now and thought it would be good to recreate it.
So I grabbed myself a new bit of white clay and began to throw it on the wheel, and here are the results!
Fun fact: Remued Pottery was a line of ware produced by the Premier Pottery Preston, There factory was actually only a 20 minute drive from our studio.
They operated out of the area from the 1930s-mid50s
The two potters working on Remued were David Dee and Reg Hawkins, The wares are recognisable by their drip-glazes and use of Australian animals and foliage for decoration
We have a few pieces at our studio and we quite regularly look and study them, they are a great piece of Australian pottery history but also local history too. If you have a few spare minutes, definitely give them a search on google!

We have our small glaze kiln loaded and ready to fire tomorrow!
